This modern home in Amsterdam is dotted with eccentric decorations and art and every its space catches an eye
This home is perhaps one of the most eye-catchy spaces I’ve ever seen – it’s not about bold colors but about contemporary art and unique furniture pieces. This is a large three-story house renovated by Amsterdam-based studio Cocoon Living.
The house is done with white walls and ceilings but dark wooden floors clad with a herringbone pattern, which creates a bold contrast and a plain backdrop for artworks. The eclectic mix of furniture and decorations creates somewhat a beach feeling but it’s not that ocean touch, it’s a cold sea feel that is characteristic of the Netherlands. You can see Versailles Baroque-style chandeliers alongside seashells, a mirror whose spokes recall the sun that warms the African savannah, mixed with a reproduction of a scarlet ibis, a bird indigenous to South America. Artworks are everywhere in this home, and they create a very inspiring and art-filled ambience, all the spaces are rather restraint in the color palette except for one.
The only colorful room here is a kid’s space done with a floral paper lamp, curtains, pillows and a colorful striped rug. This is a girl’s room, so why not use florals and bright colors here? I love the modern bathroom done in pure white, with black faucets and accessories and a chic glam brass chandelier that makes a gorgeous accent. And what’s your favorite room here?
