Mid-Century Modern Apartment Design Filled With African Art

Built in the late sixties in Madrid, this house has a spirit of that time, that’s why when designer Ivan Garrido was asked to renovate this apartment, the mid-century modern style became his priority.

To give more height to the spaces, the false ceilings were removed exposing the concrete beams. The walls and floors were finished in clear tones that leave all the attention to the paintings, sculptures and African masks. The furniture is partly in the 50s and partly in the 60 style with bright touches.

The living room is serene and warming up due to the color palette used: coral, beige, warm-colored wood, amber and pink. A mid-century modern rug echoes with these colors and cool designers’ furniture make it eye-catching, while a glazed wall brings a lot of light in. And just look at that pink sofa, isn’t it incredible?

The dining area is merged with the living room, so it has the same colors but the chairs and sideboard are white. The zone is accentuated by fanciful masks and a unique bubble chandelier.

The kitchen is modern all-white with concrete surfaces. The cabinets are white to visually enlarge the small space, the appliances are steel and the working surfaces and backsplash are concrete for functionality. The kitchen is also accentuated with a cool mid-century modern rug and an Africa-inspired art.

The master bedroom isn’t large but is very cozy, due to the large fur bedspread. White backdrop is accentuated with various mid-century modern decorations in the same color scheme as everywhere in the house.

The bathroom is simple and elegant decorated with white marble and a large mirror that expands the tiny space.
